I always try to take Cash with me, never buy with anything else.
I showed up 1 1/2 hours away one time (was on my way home from farther away) to "last minute" look at this tractor. Guy was super nice, price was right, we hmmmm'd and haaaaa'd on it, and I finally told him I would do $400 on it (which was a fair deal in my opinion) I HAPPENED to have that much cash on me, just barely though!!! Paid the guy in FULL and left for home. Got home, hooked up the trailer, and was going to leave first thing in the morning.
Go inside, and there is a phone call from him. He says in the call "Yaa, so hey. I've been thinking about it, and I need to get at least $700 out of this thing, so, if you want to send me a check for $300 more, or bring cash with you when you come to get it, that would be great!"
Totally cool and collected though, like he had done it 1000 times! :/
Called the guy up, and told him we had 2 options,
1. I was coming down in the economy car to get my $400 TODAY or 2. I was coming down tomorrow with the truck to get the tractor, period.
He beat around the bush with me, and tried to get me to cough up $200 more, then only $100 more, then $50 more, and he finally said, well. okay.....
So, I went down there and got the thing!!! He wouldn't even talk to me when I was there, and when I was ready to leave tells me "I thought you were going to be a little more honest of a person..." I told him "Hey! WE shook on the deal, WE agreed on the price, and that is good enough to be "honest" in my opinion".
Some people are just that way, BUT, in this case, if it were me, I would have rather burned a bridge with a buyer, than with my family...

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard.
