No not even in the least bit. I knew this man a good number of years before my melt down and all I ever herd from him about his "Work" was how hard he worked and how little his pay was for what he did. Now at the time I was in high school making $2.25 an hour for the work I did. MW was $2.25 at the time and that's what I and many others were making at that time and I thought $10 an hour was big money then.
Now with that said and understood, I have no problem with a man or a woman being paid a good wage for the work they do if they do good work. But in 1979 $37.75 an hour was a lot of money for anyone at that time.
Now I know I am going to make you mad hear, The Unions at that time in my mind were out of control and are one of many reasons this country is in the shape it's in now. I have no problem with Unions they can be good thing to have, But they can get out of hand with demands on wages and other things. Under his union contract his job was the relieve someone on the production line so they could use the restroom. Sounds simple right? NO. This is ware greedy people hold someone over a barrel to get more gravy. He came to work sit in a room drink coffee play cards sleep or do anything he wanted and all he had to do "Under" the contract was 4 times a day he could relieve somebody on the line And NO MORE THAN THAT. There were 35 guys (if I remember right) in that section of the plant doing this same job.
I have no problem with Unions and they did in the past do good work for the workers but it has gone the other way for nothing but greed. This is one of the reasons we are now in a "Service Economy" and unions are on a decline and manufacturing has left this country. I could go on but I wont, So lets put it this way I am not a Union Hater or a Union Lover I am right in the middle and I have no problem with someone making a good wage. Bandit
