Do a little internet searching as there are places that buy bridge cranes just like there are for other equipment. In a case like your in, anything over scrap value will be profit, and with scrap as low as it is right now, it would probably be a pretty good profit....
As far as their uses, age doesn't matter all that much. In fact one I know of one RR that is running a 100 ton overhead in their shop that is nearly 100 years old. It was put together with rivets, it's so old. Over the years it has taken care of, and the electrical part upgraded, but the crane itself is old enough no parts are available for it. I know this as we had to have several brake bands custom made for them a few years back, and then install them when they were complete.
