I have both an Ipad and a LG 7" android tablet. I have had the Ipad for four or five years now, won it in a raffle. I just got the android a couple of weeks ago for free when making changes to my cellular plan. The Ipad is wifi only and the android I can turn off the cellular data so as not to run up data usage.
The android is handy when away from home or other wifi connection, however I still use the Ipad when possible due to the larger screen size and my eyesight getting weaker as I age.
Both are used mainly for internet, email and for e-books. I still depend on my laptop for all other use.
If I had to buy one today I would probably go with an android based tablet but with the largest screen I could get. There seems to be more free apps available for the android than for the Apple based products.
