Ok, I googled beef production in India. India exports a lot of beef, but most of it is water buffalo which the USDA classifies as beef. Slaughter of water buffalo appearantly does not violate the Hindu concerns about killing and eating sacred cows since it is a separate animal.(all I know about water buffaloes are that they are large and are used as draft animals in rice fields). Indian beef of whatever description is consumed in the general area, with Vietnam being the main customer but with the Indian beef being transhipped to China. For reasons not clear to me China does not like this trade is is showing signs of trying to stop it. The demand for beef in China has increased due to better economic conditions there.
Buffalo meat is tougher and most of it goes to the ground beef trade in the general area. India does have numerous Moslems and Christians who have no objection to eating beef so there is a market there.
Interestingly enough but having nothing to do with the beef trade, the cow manure is used as an ingredient in plaster, as well as the usual use as fertilizer.
