I'm late to the game here BUT, I have had similar problems with my 3600. I did the pull the plug on the carb trick and did determine that it was a fuel delivery problem. I thought I had found the smoking gun when I removed the pet cock from the bottom of the tank and found obstruction within it. I continued to have problems. I considered the fuel pump when I could crank the engine forever and very little fuel arrived at the carb. Finally, while examining the fuel bowl filter I FOUND IT! The gasket between the sediment bowl and it's housing was so swollen and distorted that it would block the flow of incoming fuel. I suspect that the PO had put a garden hose washer in there which did not take kindly to gasoline. Just a thought.
