I'm frankly appalled at the amount of money being spent on weddings nowadays.
When my wife and I were married 50 years ago last month, we had a nice wedding but just didn't blow a lot of money on it. We used the money we didn't spend on the wedding for a down payment on a house and closed on the house a week before the wedding. We've never been sorry we did it that way.
In 50 years, my wife and I have rented living quarters for exactly 4 months. Sixteen years ago, we wintered in an apartment while our present house was being built. Other than that, we've always owned the house we were living in.

There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard.
