Not JD seller but I will offer my input. I take it that the filter you refer to is the filter element, not the pickup screen. The pickup screen is behind the large plug on the side of the transmission housing just ahead of the Left axle housing. The oil will need to be drained to check this screen. I think your problem is more likely a high pressure leak. The most probable and easiest to check is the rockshaft valve. With the tractor running, look in through the transmission oil filler toward the front of the tractor for an oil spray or stream. If this is the case you will need to overhaul the valve. There is a kit that will get you all the pieces you need. The other areas that could leak are the steering or SCVs...these will get warmer or hot if leaking internally.
