Seems to be "pick on Leroy" day today. So, here goes . While there may have been some small percentage of responsibility on Leroy's part, the comments about defensive driving are simply out of line. For one thing, none of us were there to see what happened. So, why pass judgment on the guy without ALL of the facts. Some COLLISIONS are simply not avoidable. I REFUSE to call them accidents. There is NOTHING accidental about another driver running a stop sign or traffic light and hitting another vehicle. And in those cases, there is NO LEVEL of defensive driving that could prevent what the other guy does. After all, in most cases it takes TWO vehicles to make for a collision. My girlfriend continually scolds me for using my horn. Like when I see somebody coming at me in my lane, or the idiots that approach an intersection going full speed, and then slam the brakes at the last possible second as if they had not had any intention of stopping. And, when I see a car waiting at an intersection, and the driver is looking the other way, and I see ANY wheel movement, that driver will hear my horn, long and LOUDLY. Oh, and this business about never having had an "accident?" All I can say is just dumb luck. While your cautious and defensive driving may have prevented many possible collisions, not getting hit by some other bad driver is simply luck. No other way to put it. So, wear it like a badge, and use it as a bragging point, but KNOW THIS - it is just as much luck as it is caution and skill. No matter how defensively you drive, there is no way to control the actions of others. Leroy, I am truly sorry to hear of the loss of your wife. I'm sure that she was taken from you at a much too young age.

Minus two kids, we traveled light with only the youngest in tow. As long as a pool was at the end of our destination she was easy to please unlike the other two who have a multitude of requirements to travel with mom and dad. Amana Colonies served as a respite where we ate a family style lunch that sustained us with more food than could reasonably fit into our ample physiques. The show at Ankeny
