One night a couple of years ago, I was following two cars poking along about 5mph below the 60mph speed limit. There was no oncoming traffic, so I kicked it in the butt and went flying around both of them. A Deputy Sergeant, whom I knew, happened to be in the right place to pull me over and give me a written warning for speeding. I could tell he was having a hard time keeping a straight face through it all.
Then when I got home, my wife was standing there laughing at me. She'd heard the whole thing on her scanner.
A couple of weeks later, I happened to sit at the same table as the County Sheriff at a graduation party and couldn't resist telling him about it. I wasn't complaining, it was my own dang fault, I just thought he'd get a kick out of it and he did.
He then told me a tale from a year or so before that. He lives in a different town from where his office is. One evening he was driving his personal car in plain clothes when a city cop from the town he lives in stopped him for going several miles per hour over the limit. When the cop found out who he had, he just had to go all the way with a background check, run the VIN on the vehicle, and anything else he could think of. While all of this was going on, the Sheriff's Deputies were listening to it all on the radio. He said it was two weeks before he could get all of his deputies to shut up and quit giving him a hard time over it.

Amana Colonies served as a respite where we ate a family style lunch that sustained us with more food than could reasonably fit into our ample physiques. The show at Ankeny
