I do not think they are that incredibly rare here in the northern part of the country, I do know from the farmer I work with that they were never sold in the the united states, and that John Deere bought out the Lanz manufacturing sometime in the late 50's or early 60's.
We we had to get parts for the tractor we had to drive to Winnipeg for the parts.
This farmer had several of them, and another farmer down the road also farmed with several of them. Both farmers have now been dead for over 20 years, and both have had huge collection auctions many many moons ago.
I have been to several North Dakota shows off and on in the past few years there is always a handful of Hot-bulb tractors there be it Lanz, Field Marshall or that Polish model Ursus that came on the scene after Lanz was bought out by Deere and Company
Also at the show in Austin Manitoba at one time they had 2 Lanz Bulldogs that ran on rendered lard, it was neat to see but they smelled to high heaven. Also they have several at the Reynolds Museum in Wetewaskin Alberta. A must see for any collector.
I think it would be nice to get my hands on one again.

To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
