I am not real familiar with a CIH 5120 but have been around them some. Before I would get too in depth in any thing I would change the transmission filters and make sure the oil level is topped off. These tractors are sensitive to plugged or restricted filters. IRC the power shift control valve is a manual one not electronic. If the filters are not your issue then I would say there is a control valve sticking in the valve body.
I am sure there are fellow that will have more recent knowledge of this tractor. It has been 10 years or more since I worked on one. They really did not seem to have many issue around here. There are a few on some livestock farms with pretty high hours, 10-12K range.
