I have a 5230. I assume they're much the same. I can try to share my experience. But I doubt I can remember it all at one time, and type it all out here. So possibly you would want to e-mail me, so we could then eventually talk? But does NZ mean you are in New Zealand?
When I bought mine used, it would go, but it had problems. I only bought it because I knew someone who could fix it. He replaced the power shift module, and a particular little ground wire connection through one of the big plugs in the bottom of the cab. He knew of the ground wire weakness. This tractor has little brown ground(maybe earth to you!) wires all over. Some of them go right to the battery. That was a major mistake, as when the battery cable corrodes a little, the whole system can try to ground through one of these little wires. Then it's fry time.
I have over time replaced about every solenoid on the back of this tractor. Forward, reverse, PTO, MFWD, diff. lock, and there are three of them on the 3 point valve! There is a bank of solenoids down on the side which do the actual power shifting, and they have been trouble free. There is a temp., or pressure sensor on the filter housing, hidden behind the battery box, which needs to be hooked up, or you won't get far.
Hopefully you can find someone familiar with these, as I expect that will be necessary.
