Yes the 1965 and newer Fords were cross flow. I have some original dealer literature here where Ford touts it as an improvement. Not sure what the reason was. Along with the cross flow they put a wet intake manifold on the gassers to preheat the intake air. The older engines didn't need it as the combined in/ex manifold did the same thing. Larry, good for you for doing it right. Now it'll be good for another 40-50 years.
