: : : in the fifties a company supplied a front wheel drive called an elwood front wheel assist for farmall M's anyone know anything about? I'm planing to build a simmilar thing would like input : Elwood built front ends for Minneapolis Moline tractors. The were for G's and M-5's the M style tractor was called the 504. It was a little bigger than a M. Possibly on could be used on your replica. The front axle used on these tractors was built by GM for the military and were military surplus units from 2.5 ton 6wd army trucks. the axles are readily available in salavage yards, Elwood manufacturing, manufactured transfer cases , strg linkages and drivelines to make these units work on John Deere, Moline, and IH tractors. I have copies of literature advertising these units. These units were also intalled on moline, 5 star, big mo 500, u302, 602, jet star 2 and jet star 3 tractors. They are rare and difficult to find. the units installed on GVI, G704 and Early g706 tractors are more readily available and can be purchased without too much searching. To install one on a Farmall M may be a trick as I have never heard of this being Done. However, The late Lloyd Erickson of Elwood Manufacturing was very talented and may have found a way to power a drop box off of an M also, I personally have never seen or heard of this as having been done. Most of these project were started in the late 50's after the end of the M farmall production run. I am facinated by these units and would enjoy discussing them with any interested parties.
