An H Farmall I was running my log splitter on always has had a serious growl in the transmission ever since I bought it on a consignment auction a couple of years ago. It was quiet in neutral, so I was just using to run my splitter.
The other day, I started it up and it ran for a few seconds. Then something made a cracking sound in the transmission and the engine stopped. Upshot is, something broke in the trans and locked it up. The engine will run fine with the clutch blocked, but releasing the clutch kills the engine. I tried pushing it with another tractor and the rear wheels slide.
It's sitting about 50 yards from my shop and I have no way of moving it. Guess it can sit there till spring when I can work on it outside. Probably the first step is to pull the top off the trans/rear end and see what I can see.
I can put the splitter on my M, but from the weather, I'm probably done splitting for now anyway.

But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
