: : The transmission is not designed to roll in neurtral at high rates of speed all the time. You will destroy it. Try to find a locking hubs for the back. : Jim, If the towed vehicle is a straight shift and you're only going a short distance, the windmilling cluster gear will sufficently lubricate the transmission in neutral; if the towed vehicle is automatic...bad news, the forward hyrdaulic pump will NOT work and you will burnup the transmission in short order....just to be safe either way, disconnect the drive shaft at the hoghead and securely tie it completely out of the way. This allows the forward yoke to maintain its seal to the tailshaft. And don't dare forget...the towing vehicle must be allowed the TIME and DISTANCE to brake the total weight of all three components!!!Aonther thing...make sure that the towed vehicle has tail/brake/turn lights wired to the towing vehicle. Eddie Petty It was touched on before but...... If your truck is a 4x4 the neutral position was designed for towing. The transmission will not be connected to the axles if you're in neutral so there isn't any trouble with burning the trans. Alternately, if your truck is two wheel drive, I've seen people use a towing dolly with the rear wheels in the dolly. I don't know about the safety issues here.....
