I have no experience to compare with yours; being cleaned out by fire. I've felt unqualified to even comment on your loss. However, a friend went through a similar disaster. He woke up to fire, jumped out of his bedroom window and was left with the T-shirt he was sleeping in. Due to the building's construction and its location - it took the firemen a while to get there - he recognized there was no point in going back to try to retrieve anything.
In spite of the fires both of you went through, your optimism, voiced in this post, is similar to his. Following the fire, my friend said he came to have a sense of freedom. With his past gone, all that remained was his future. He was prudent in decisions which followed, but if he saw an opportunity, the door was open. He wasn't naïve, he didn't proceed fearlessly, but he described an unfamiliar sense of freedom to follow the opportunity.
The jams I have been in have convinced me the future is an amazing thing.
Native tribes of the Northwest Plains practiced variations of the Sundance ritual. Part of this ritual, not as well known, involved the back, and preceded the pectoral muscle ritual. Coming from the Plains, you may find a study of this ritual interesting. The difficult part will be getting beyond descriptions of how they did it and finding an account of what they were doing and why. In a way, you may find the "why" applicable to your situation.
