I agree on the beauty of this time of year...the low angle of the sun really makes stuff sparkle. I just came out of the mountains with the kids sledding up the logging roads.
I disagree about the trumpeters. While I do understand why people think they are majestic...I would hope they can also understand the destruction caused by them to the native marshes and surroundings. They can dig holes that end up being craters and the feces are worse than Canadian Geese.
People said a pair showed up here 30 years ago and they thought they were wonderful. Now over 300 overwinter between a couple of lakes and the foreshore. They fly all night, take out power lines, and dig holes.
I suppose its like deer, someone earlier today called them white tail rats. 2 or 3 is fine. 20-30 is a pain. 50 + is a war zone.
