I can't measure before putting the o-rings on as these sleeves are already installed - I probably should have given more info -
I bought the tractor with a recently rebuilt engine.
It seemed to be fine until after about a month of very light use (ok, entered one tractor pull just for fun).
The head gasket is now leaking between both the 2&3 and the 4&5 cylinders. I caught it by the coolant bubbling up. Did a leak down test just to confirm the obvious.
So I pulled it apart to inspect. Head gasket is all black between those cylinder pairs.
So checked the flatness of the head and it's straight as an arrow (good thing since judging by the indicators there's not a whole lot more than can be taken off)
So now I'm trying to check the sleeve protrusion. Rough ball park check say's they're close, but I want a good reliable measurement since I don't want to be doing this again in the middle of hay season.
This is probably more a question for the farmall board - but there's no markings on the head gasket, so I don't know who made it. I've heard the felpro's are prone to failure, and I should stick with IH. (but I'm curious if this IS an IH gasket). Any markings that I should look for that may give it away?
The one thing I forget to do was check the torque on the head bolts before removing it, to see if maybe they were too lose - as in the previous owner didn't re-torque them after running it. Wish I thought of that, just to know.
Previous owner didn't seem to be a fan of copper spray either, which I always use - and will on this one if not directed otherwise by the gasket company. Maybe that'll help.
