Wondered that myself ,at least You, JD , were on Your toes and Yours is still alive,.. I had a cow got her leg in a gas tank strap hanging off the seat of a VAC case parts tractor way back in the cedar woods thiket , tractor has been there for 4 yrs , same cows around it for at least 6 yrs ..she must a been there a couple days before I came thru yesterday and found her ,dead ,no idea why she got there in the 1st place or could not easily get out ??? . I have been down with a bad cold all week , usually run the fences when I take hay out , but the weather has been so nasty , been feeding them square bales at the barn , ,if I am sik ,my cows probably are too , gonna be in single digits tonite, was in the 50s Saturday with rain .. couple days ago , the whole herd bolted like the ky derby for the gateway and run out in the hay field across the road as I was taking hay and feed thru the gate with the tractor ,.. usually they follow me like the pied piper,,.. yes, a few came bak for the feed rite away, with my calling ,and banging the bucket . but the rest were plumb ornery, they would not scatter and run, just stood there eating the taller fall grass .i just could not herd them ,.they were doing no harm,, I put feed on my car trailer and led all them bak in the pasture ,.. all the while I sized up their health and realized I had some pneumonia syptoms sneakin in on me ,.with the heavy rains and roller coaster temps ,no wonder they were sick and half crazy stupid ,,btw , the feed and round bale was gonna be set in the warm cedars thiket in site of where the cow was THEN probably hung up on the parts tractor ?? . BUT ,the ol 'devil run the cows out and made me play his time wasteing game instead of hauling back over the rise ,I had to drop the hay where they would see it so I could gather them all in easily, that took most of an hour ,and it had started to COLD DRIZZLE too ,Now I needed to go get some cold medicine for my self as well as the cows before the feed store closed ,my own medicine coulda waited til Saturday .when I got bak ,, it was dark , but I medicated the feed for the cows and made a nice spred in tubs and barrel halves so they all got some,. Saturday morning early, I had to go bak to town for our county government mtg,.finaly got to play with the cows again around 2 pm , I had no IDEA ,one of 35 were missing either ,topt over the rise ,and kinda thought the cow was havin a calf, on the other side of the old tractor . so I cautuosly walked down there, only to see that she wasn't moving and was still a little warm ,,but dead as can be .yes ,in spite of the rain , I coulda and shoulda counted them all the day and nite before ,. but I did not,.But You JD ,knew one was missing . That Is WHY You other more successful farmers than me are farming much better than me ,.. ,. you gotta constantly stay on top ,.. funny thing , today I was talkin with a hi school chum we affectionately call the One Armed Bandit , he needs more hay for all his cows in his salvage yard pasture,.. I told him about my cow ,, and he said he or his DAd in 40yrs has never had a cow OR Calf get in trouble in the yard ,,.other than a split hoof,,.. well go figure ,,.I am starting to think I need to drag the disc ,cultipaker , hayrake and tedder away from the idiots ,,.a fella just cant never be careful enuf..

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
