Years ago I was at a farm that had old machinery scattered all over the place. It was all horse drawn equipment. I was there to see if I could buy an old home made sawmill carriage for a sawmill that I was putting together. The old bachelor that lived there told us that his dad farmed there, and when he(the bachelor) was drafted into the army he never came back home until his father was old and near the end of his life. He never farmed himself, only rented the land out all those years. He gave us permission to look around some. He told me that the blade for the sawmill was in the hay mow the last time he saw it. The barn was built out of logs, and the mow had caved in. Another fella and I climbed up on the pile to look for the blade. We did find it, but the fascinating thing was what we saw in the ground level of the barn. Everything was still as it was when the bachelors father left the barn for the last time. Pitch fork in one corner, milk stool and bucket in the alley way, even the draft horse harnesses were hanging in the wall on some wooden pegs. There was even an old coat hanging on a peg, at least what was left of it. Looked really eerie. I drove by that place about fifteen years later and everything was gone. Probably all bulldozed into a hole and buried.
