There are about 1200 enclosed malls in the US and about one-third of them are dead or dying. The US has twice as much square footage in shopping centers per capita than the rest of the world and six times as much as European countries. We simply overbuilt malls in the 20th century. Many of them will be razed or turned into something else. On-line shopping will accelerate that process.
