I had a 49 Cub years ago. When the generator went out, I took the starter and the generator to the local starter and alternator repair shop. I told them I wanted to make it 12 volt. They rewired the starter and gave me a "one wire Chevrolet alternator." They put a new gear on the starter when they reworked it.. I took it all home and put it together. Because the Cub had no lights, that wasn't a problem.they I put a 12 volt battery on it. Man, that thing turned over fast! If all other doesn't work, maybe a starter repair shop (especially and older shop with older mechanics running it!) can help you. Thanks for bringing back memories of my first tractor!
