After the gravel pit flooded, for the third time in 10 years, the boss finally decided she needs to move her flower beds to higher ground. So, I've been taking advantage of the warm winter and removing brush, leveling hill sides, moving dirt and making places for new beds. I discovered some hills have nice top soil, then a layer of sand and gravel, and then just loose sand. The sand is so loose that after filling the front bucket with dirt, the front wheels would get buried in it. So I had to lowered the front bucket to remove weight off the wheels and slid the backhoe out on the bucket.
At the end of the day, it didn't take long to pick up the brush with forks, load it and take it to the brush pile to burn later. The forks came in handy to push the brush down in the trailer. The dump trailer is only 10 ft long and some of the trees were sticking out the back another 10 ft. Good thing I didn't have to drive down the road.

But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
