When I was growing up my dad just kept us home from school on really cold or snowy days. Then he would put us on a shovel or to help thaw waterers and chop ice for cattle. School seemed to get along OK without us. Seemed pretty cool to drive by the school dropping off hay somewhere and all the "kids" in the building and me doing grownup work. Now they would try to go after him for stuff like that. My junior year of high school I missed over 35 days without being sick once and still made the honor roll (back when they still published it). As for closing school today, big deal. Its hot, its cold, the teachers are sicking out for more money, the football team is playing at state, its the day after the superbowl.... I don't think anyone is hurting too much except the moms that work with small children and no daycare.
