I have been wrenching for 35 years, and have had two different shops. I have learned two things about cleaning the shop. #1 junk and clutter is like a gold fish, it will grow to its environment. My old shop was always looking pretty cluttered, so I built a new one 3 times bigger. Wait a few years and the junk grew to the size of the new shop. Same look,, bigger building. #2 If you have time to keep your shop looking squeaky clean then you don't have much going on, or aren't getting much done. Impossible to turn work out while cleaning. I try to clean between jobs, but most times sweeping the floor is about all the time I have. Still think a work bench should be shaped like a dome. So if you let go of something it will roll off onto the ground. That way your bench would always be clean. I am a pack rat of sorts. Hate throwing away stuff you will need down the road. I even save old nuts bolts and hose clamps from jobs.Sometimes it pays off to have a part tucked away when a neighbor stops in.
