Friend went to start his low time, nice, original AC D15II, and it barely cranked over and started. When he got it out, he noticed it wasn't charging. Then he noticed the generator and wires going back to the voltage regulator were burned to a crisp. Then with the side cover removed, he found the wires going to the ammeter burned to a crisp. We still don't know why the tractor, (and the building and other machines) didn't totally go up in smoke ! My guess is the cut-out points in his VR didn't open when the tractor was last shut off. I am apt to watch the ammeter go into a little discharge, and then drop back to 0 when I shut off my tractors. Now I know why.
