I have heard of Riester's in terms of appliances and the comments were always good. Also, heard of the truck hoist business. The most successful MM dealers I heard of were Coryn in Canandaigua and Gavin Brothers in Avon. Granted there were others around but I was told a few gave up around 1960 or so. Sometimes a good dealer faces a situation out of their control. Deere had some dealers that kind of took over in the region such as it was with the one in Hall during the 1970's. IH had some ultra successful dealers as well. I remember being sent to the IH dealer in Batavia around 1979 because the local one did not have the part in stock plus we needed to get that particular implement going that day and they had literally dozens of 86 series tractors lined up along Rte 98.

Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
