Engine Block

I recentlly broke my engine block , the connecting rod came loose and broke the wall just behind where the starter is, no damage was done to water jacket I plan to bolt on a 1/8 " plate to the side of the block to cover the hole and adding JB Weld to it the hole is about 4X6"'s I see no problem , does anyone have any suggestions or what would be the least expensive method repair this damage .
