I have been in the cleaning chemical business for over forty years, and sell by the truckload. Don't go by names or brands or color, go by SDS and label instructions. Simple green has about a dozen different versions and some would remove paint. You should use caustic Potassium hydroxide only on very greasy parts. Solvent bases cleaners can be used where caustics would remove paint or dissolve aluminum. For painted products stick with products that are intended for use with bare hands.
