I agree with the general consensus that it is a scam. I disagree with taking it to the bank. It is too old, too fishy, and in general not believable. When it comes to an amount that is in the thousands, I KNOW what I am expecting, who it is from, and why that check would be in my hand. Since no harm has yet been done, unless there is some attempt to defraud you, I would just put it aside. If it is somehow legitimate, the maker of the check will contact you. Think about it: why would somebody send out a check that is so far out of date? Why would they not follow up on it? This is a significant amount of money - not exactly pocket change!! Folks just do not throw around that kind of money to no good end.
