Deere Scotty- Sorry to hear of your loss. I went through the same thing in 1997. I was moving up the ladder and gaining raises pretty quickly. Making really good wages. After 17 years of work, company HR came in and said Company is sold and workers from other company will be sent in for us to train them how to do our job. We were offered 2 weeks pay for every year of service, unused vacation pay. We were to continue working until we trained our replacements (2 months).
I went to my Doctor and explained the situation and the pressure, anxiety and nervousness I was feeling. He wrote a Doctors note saying that I need not to return to work for 2 months due to the stress I felt.
Got paid for the 2 months off plus received all the severance package.
Now, the bad news, Since that lay-off, I have not found a job to replace my salary. I worked full time without benefits and for 1/3 the pay, Worked minimum wage jobs, spent many weeks looking for another job, the job market has changed a lot since I first entered it in the 1970's.
