Just for discussion our nearest Deere dealer is 20 minutes away with them having another branch being around 20 minutes away in a different direction. There is another single location Deere dealer that is about 25 minutes away. I kind of wonder what that dealer's future will be now that farmers are not buying like they were a couple of years ago. This dealer had spent on buildings just a couple of years ago, too. Anyways, we have a good working relationship with both with most of our business going to the first mentioned dealer. I have called that dealer for tech support for things over 30 years old and they are very professional about helping versus grumbling about not trading it in on something new.
NH is the closest and they have good people in parts and sales. The personalities clash between me and the manager there so it creates a layer of resistance when buying. I just worry that at some point the good guys will be gone from there and then I really will be stuck. The nearest competing NH dealer does not really cater to farmers as they push backhoes, skid steers, and compacts due to a nearby city market.
CaseIH is problematic as their nearest dealer is about 25 minutes away so I have to pass the other guys first. The people are not terrible to work with but they just do not seem small farmer oriented and the prices are clearly take it or leave it in nature whether it be whole goods or parts. A competing CaseIH dealer is over 50 miles away.
We are mostly JD starting with when dad was young the nearest JD dealer was under 10 minutes away. They closed quite a number of years ago because the owners wanted to retire with nobody to take their place. The building was outdated and in a poor location to grow which did not help. IH was within 10 miles in two directions then the merger with Case closed one and the other combined with the multi-location Case dealer a decade later.
