We started tapping the sugar bush Wed. Had a short day with limited help. More of a shake down for the tapping equipment. Everything went well. Planned on Thurstay being a big day and it was inspite of an issue with the batteries in the farm tractor. While a couple of the guys chased down and installed new bats. The rest of us spent the morning tapping with my Case 440 and trailer carring The buckets and covers. This is a 60A sugar bush on limestone flat rock. By the end of today we had hung 2490 buckets, up 100 from last year. We used to hang 3500 buckets. We always tap this week in Feb., because school is out and we have some young and enthusiastic help, plus a couple of wives. There are 4 generations of family working side by side. Yesterday afternoon the farm tractor and big trailer was back in service and we had 2 power tappers running. In the late afternoon one of the tappers started acting up, and was down for the count today while we finished up using just one. No sap is running as temps have not broken the freezing mark until this afternoon. It may be a short season. hardly any snow on the ground, and very little frost in the woods. I'm haveing problems uploading pics tonight. Got one to upload after two tries at 15min each. I posted pics last night down on the Case forum that you can view there. Loren
