Ford Man, Go with a 12 volt system. You wrote that the 6 volt alternator is about $80. A 12 volt GM alternator is $30 - $35 at a auto parts store and use the savings to get a 12 V battery and lights. The advantages of going to 12 Volts is that the engine starts better and spins much faster. In the future if you should want to buy some implements that are 12 volt, then you can do so. For example, I have a seed broadcaster that has a 12 volt blower motor that spins the paddle wheel. I've never seen one for a 6 volt system. The next time you replace a bulb or battery you will appreciate the availability of these items as compared to finding 6 volt items. Just make the plunge and then it's behind you once and for all. I've converted 4 tractors in the last 5 years. It's simple and efficient. The GM alternator with the internal regulator makes it simple and some people have a conversion to them to where they only have to run the heavy wire to the output lug on the alternator. As they say: "Just do it." Ken McWilliams Dayton, Ohio
