Hydraulic system problems

Our church has an old 1973 White (make) dump truck. It had a broken line coming out of the hydraulic pump. I replaced the line, and now the bed will not go up. I AM NOT a mechanic, and know nothing whatsoever about hydraulic systems. It has dual rams. The bed used to go up before this problem. Do I need to prime the pump ? Do I need to bleed the rams, and if so how ? Any and ALL suggestions will most certainly be welcome. I would really appreciate any e-mail with suggestions, information on how hydraulic systems work or URL's to same, pictorial breakdowns on general hydraulic systems etc. Thanks in advance - Rick
