I agree with others on the press, but I'm surprised nobody mentioned heat straightening.
Get it close by mechanical means - then heat straighten it for the final touch to make it perfect (if you can't get it "just right" by mechanical means, obviously)
You heat one spot red on the "high" side, then rapidly cool it. That shrinks the metal in that area and it will pull the rod in the direction of the heated spot.
I was skeptical the first time I ever tried it, but it works very well. It's kinda satisfying too.
It's slow going, but that's what makes it so accurate. You can watch your progress with a dial indicator. Each time you cool the rod - it comes up a few hundredths (depending on the distance between where you're heating and measuring obviously). But just keep re-doing it till you get it where it needs to be.
With a little work, you can get that rod straight as an arrow - if that kind of accuracy is important to your application.
