I am no expert on anything, but have overhauled many Deutz tractors. First of all the piston to head clearance on a deutz is about 1.5 mm. Very close. So close that some will develop a knock when they are run hot, then lose it only seconds after the load is removed,this is from the expansion of the piston and aluminum head. You can remove the head assembly and reuse the fire ring. Some don't even use a head gasket. Just cast iron jug to aluminum head lapped together. Just a little carbon that has fallen off the piston or head will cause them to lock up. Dont be scared of working on it, its just different from engines built here in the states.
