John I am in louisiana also and I agree with the electrician the 4.3 is the better of the two but it needs 4.10 rears in my opinion and the 4.8 the numbers aren't real unless you drive with your foot flat on the floor it won't pull a popcorn fart out of a crawfish hole . My choose would be in gm 6.2 then 5.3 and last 4.3 no others qualify as truck engines . I own a 2012 gmc with a 5.3 and a 2000 Toyota tundra with a 4.7 and can say the Toyota will pull and the gmc rides and drives, so figure what you will be doing and get what takes care of your needs . My wife drives a new Toyota tundra and I think it is far better than either of the older ones .
