B.C. Farmer: Talk to a local lawyer. ASAP. Your renting your Mother's family farm!!!! Your "I assume all risk and liability" document" Maybe good or not, that is why you need to talk to your LOCAL legal council.
Your comment " I don't want to lose our farm but shouldn't have to stop having fun either. I decided I was gonna put my foot down and try to make it happen." Sounds kind of flippant to me. I have to tell you if one of my kids told me they were going to risk my farm to have "fun" I would put my boot up their backside.
I have to tell you lots of "fun" things can no longer be done because of the risk/liability.
I wish you luck. I found out that the insurance for a single day event like your talking about was still pretty stiff. Also the "value" of having the ground plowed during a plow day is ZERO!!! The plowing job will be bad. thee will be enough guys that do a terrible job compared to the fellow that do a good job that you will spend more leveling out the field after the plow day than it would have cost you just till it correctly yourself. Plus how many actually plow a field these days anyway???
