I was a Quacker state lubber my engines were clean. I was raised around mechanics and learned early to keep my oil changed, Are was it the oil was free
I started wrenching 71/72 I got to work on 60's engines but few 50's engines. I don't think I have seen but a few engines sludge when the owners maintained there vehicle religiously no mater what oil they used... I still don't buy into those claims.
The industry worked hard to get folks to maintain there vehicles then the industry went to extended oil intervals  Modern oil taint that damm good...
Two oil filters center and one to the right both changed religiously same oil 5/30 synthetic blend @3K... The center one is sludged ...WHY... Every filter in the bucket is changed at about 3K except the yellow one I don't remember were it came from, all are clean why is one sludged.
I will goathead and tell you I know its been losing a qt of coolant every 3K for the last 20K the heads are leaking coolant this is what it does to the oil... Other than I know this and keep a good record on what I top off while preforming a service the engine runs good with no other issues.
Unless you know the history are lets say you did not its EZ to blame the oil...

I credit my parents for instilling a lot of good values, a respect for learning, a knowledge of various skills and a little knowledge of farming in me, amo
