Our 686 had the 310. It was recalled and had 706 sleeves and pistons put in it because of hard starting. Ran cheaper than a 706 with the 282.Engine will wet stack(slobber) if not used hard enough. About same HP but the 7 could pull more.7 is harder to shift for loader work if you have to go through the high low range. 6 is harder to get on even though it was closer to the ground( one step verse 2).Hydraulics were ok but watch the filter for debris(about the same for both tractors).Felt the rear end was to light for the 310 as we had several gears strip off( I still blame this to maybe it was built as a lemon from the factory). I feel that the JD's of that era were better loader tractors because their front end are heavier and their loaders were better, depends on how much loader work you are going to do.
