RBoots- I've always heard that putting a petroleum based product on leather is bad. FWIW.
Also, since WD40 is petroleum based and mostly contains Stoddard solvent, I would be afraid to use it on anything that comes into constant contact with skin.
Here is the MSDS cautions for Stoddard solvent...
Section 3:..." The substance is toxic to lungs, the nervous system, mucous membranes. Repeated or prolonged exposure to the substance can produce target organs damage."
Section 4...."Skin Contact: After contact with skin, wash immediately with plenty of water. Gently and thoroughly wash the contaminated skin with running water and non-abrasive soap. Be particularly careful to clean folds, crevices, creases and groin. Cover the irritated skin with an emollient. If irritation persists, seek medical attention. Wash contaminated clothing before reusing."
"Serious Skin Contact: Wash with a disinfectant soap and cover the contaminated skin with an anti-bacterial cream. Seek medical attention."
