: Can anyone who has owned or operated 2 cylinder models and the new generation models (after 1960) give me a perspective on the merits of each. Some claim that the 2 cylinder models were just made better, more reliable, etc. I ask becuase I don't have much experience on either and own a Model 1010 but love the looks of the Model 50 and 420 series. Thanks for your input. The 2 clylinder are a low rpm high torque engine with a big fly wheel. After all other manufacturs went to 4 or 6 clyinder engines with live pto and hydrualic john deere had to change or get left behind they did fall behind but caught up very fast with the 20 seris to bad all the john deere heads could't take your question seriously
