: I want to put a front loader on my 5030 Allis : Chalmers and it doesn't have power steering? A : local tells me they are real hard to manage if : without power steering? But he wants to sell me : a tractor so I need advise, is it adviseable to : do? Lillie, As the other folks said, you probably would not like a loader on a tractor with no power steering. But I would have to disagree with the advice not to get a front loader without 4WD. It is true that a small tractor (25-35hp) needs 4WD to be extremely useful with a loader, but a medium size 2WD tractor with power steering can handle a loader efficiently. I currently have a MF 250 (about 45hp, if I remember corrrectly) with a Bushog brand loader with 6 ft. bucket. With liquid ballast in the rear tires and a bushog or box scrape on the rear for the heavier loads, it has picked up everything I have ever loaded in it or hooked to it with a chain. I have loaded entire cars on a trailer with it. At the worst, on muddy ground, with a heavy load in the bucket, backing up a hill, I may have to step on the differential lock to maintain traction. It's the best thing since a bib on overalls.
