I've changed hundreds, maybe more, tires using what you call improper tools. I can't remember ever even getting a scratch. You can goof off one time using "proper" tools and get hurt and some people could be wrapped in bubble wrap and get hurt. I've used a Handyman jack, front bucket and my favorite is a backhoe bucket or stabilizer and they all work fine and my back and shoulders are none worse for wear.
From my experience, the safety police is made up of accident prone folks. I may get hurt tomorrow but it will be from being stupid, not because of an "improper tool" that I used.
