Case 580-CK mechanical brakes

Hi,
I recently acquired a Case 580-CK diesel
backhoe. The units seems to run smootlyand the front
and rear buckets seem to operate OK. The whole
thing seems pretty well worn.
The biggest problem I have at this point
is: NO BRAKES ! Looking in a service manual that
came with the unit, these appear to be "band" type
brakes that are actuated by mechanical linkage
from the pedals.
I'm COMPLETELY UNFAMILIAR with tractors,
backhoes and similar equipment. Can anyone assist
in suggestions on how to remedy the brake problem,
including parts sources ?
