I installed a used pet safe in ground model years ago and it has worked to keep our dog home and safe for many years. I have had issues with collars not holding up. The old large stubborn dog one I bought used has held up the best. I've been going thru a lot of batteries lately too. I do not keep the collar real tight either because I read where leaving one on them full time can cause problems. So far it's on full time and no skin problems. I also think she may not hear as well or is just outsmarting it ? May be going up to the beep zone and laying there letting it drain the battery. I hate to spend a lot more money on these collars as the dog is around 13 ? so may not be around a lot longer ?
