The one thing I can tell you is to drop the early calving and your life will be much better. You do not have a green blade of grass but your cows are calving. Why???? Bigger fall feeder calf??? The difference in the work involved and the slightly smaller calf is a wash. My Spring cows calve in late May and June. They are standing in knee high grass. Usually not a mud puddle in sight by then too. IF you are finishing your own calves then it real does not make any since to calve early.
Note to you!!! Keep that woman away from the cows calving with her advanced pregnancy. One good kick or knock an she is having baby troubles. I know this first hand. My mother lost a baby when a cow kicker her. I was a teenager. Hard on her and the family.
I do not mean to be hard on a hard working fellow but make your life easier and forget what the coffee shop tells you. Early calving is an accident waiting to happen.
